Net layer. Totally pointless! What’s it doing there… Geerrrrr. How could I be so stupid?

A legacy of the dinosaur thinkers of PCB design software in the last millennium.

What it really should be is a checkbox to show/hide unrouted tracks. With that in mind, the Net layer is history in the next few days. This is the problem of looking at how other programs do it. Your mind gets messed up and sometimes fails to filter out the chaff and get to the true meaning of things.

When I first started AutoTRAX (EDA at the time) I had to look at others to see how to do it. Hence net layers.

AutoTRAX EDA was modelled too much on dinosaur thinking.  So out the window it went and in came AutoTRAX DEX (Albeit slowly).
