  • Viewports have a ruler which can be hidden. As you move the mouse in the viewport, markers on the ruler show you the position of the cursor.

PROJECT PANEL

  • The project panel shows you the hierarchical layout of your schematics and text documents together with the PCB. Schematics and text documents are called sheets. You can:

ADDING PARTS

  • A Capacitor Wizard dialog lets you quickly define and add capacitors to your  PCB design.

WIRING

  • True electrical nodes supported.
  • No dangling wires or unconnected wires. It is impossible to leave a wire not connected at both ends.
  • Show/Hide node names.
  • Auto-routing of wires.
  • Simple wiring by holding down the mouse over the source terminal and dragging to the target terminal/wire and releasing. The wire will be automatically routed around obstacles.
  • Moving symbol will automatically route wires.
  • Wires can be manually moved.
  • Optional wire jump overs.
  • Optional wire join points.
  • Line width/color and style are settable for each wire.
  • There is a menu item to remove all schematic wires so you can start again.
  • To test things out there is a ‘connect all’ button to randomly connect up your parts. This is a good experimental/learning tool.
  • You can add no-connect markers to symbol terminals to indicate the terminal will remain unconnected.
  • A menu item gives you a re-wire all feature to automatically re-wire your circuit.

BUSES

  • Add buses to your schematics to carry multiple signals.
  • Connect node wires to them.

INTER-WIRE CONNECTORS

  • Add inter-wire connectors (sometimes called off-page connectors, but AutoTRAX’s inter-wire connectors can connect to others on the same schematic).
  • These name and/or display the node name for attached wires.
  • Connects wires to similarly named inter-wire connectors on the same schematic or other schematics.

SUB-SYSTEMS AND PORTS

  • Add sub-symbol that looks and behaves like a schematic symbol (part) but really represents a circuit defined on another schematic.
  • Ideal for top-down design.
  • Double click opens the schematics.
  • Ports on the sub-system schematic appear as terminals on the sub-system schematic symbol.
  • Connect wires to the sub-system schematic symbol’s terminals to connect to the ports in the sub-system.
  • Connect wires in the sub-system to the ports to connect to the sub-system schematic symbol’s terminals.

PCBs

  • Unlimited size.

  • Each electrical layer can have its own settable 24 bit color.

GERBER VIEWER

  • Integrated Gerber viewer.
  • This viewer works by exporting the PCB to Gerber files and reading them back in so you get a true view of the Gerber files, not a ‘fake’ view by reading the internal data structures. This gives you more confidence the Gerber files are correct.

DIMENSIONS

  • Linear dimensions.

  • 4 different types of end markers.
  • Linear and angled dimensions can display the dimension in the sheets units, an optional name with the dimension, or just the name.
  • Coordinate dimensions that display their x,y coordinates automatically in the sheets units. Values updated when moved.

GROUPING

  • Objects can be grouped together and move/rotate/scale as one.
  • Groups can contain other groups.
  • Groups can be ungrouped.

SYMBOLS

EDITING SYMBOLS

  • Auto arrange terminal by name/pin number and optionally add spacing.

MIRRORING AND ROTATING SYMBOLS

  • Mirror symbols about the vertical or horizontal center line. Terminals auto aligned.
